Week 2, Day 2 - Our Self Worth

The goal of this week was to get the girls to say out loud things that bother them or scare them.  We want to show the girls that if we voice the things that scare us, or negative things we hear, they lose their power and hold on us.  So today the girls wrote letters to themselves as "Siren" would see them.  It was to contain all of the negative things they've ever felt or said about themselves.  (A lot of them asked if they could make up bad things, so don't be too concerned about these messages!)

After writing those terrible messages we played a game where they came up with positive messages to counter those terrible Siren messages.  The girls sprinted toward the Mini Mermaid and Siren posters (Thanks Miss Carol for your help!), and on their way they yelled out a negative Siren message.  When they got to the posters they said what Mini Mermaid would say in response to Siren's statement.

After we played the game to counter Siren's messages, the girls shredded those ugly letters they had written. Whew!  Gone are all those negative thoughts!

After the shredding, the girls ran a warm up lap, we did a few stretches, and then they did their running for the day.  Today they were just asked to run 4 laps.  A few girls wanted to run more, so I let them run until everyone was done.

For our final activity the girls wrote in the journal.  This time they wrote themselves letters from Mini Mermaid to counter any negative Siren messages.  These felt much better!

Remind all the girls to work on the service project for Sunday!  Take the time to do something nice for someone, and let us know what you did next time we meet.  See you then!
